Experimental Investigation of the Supercavitation and Hydrodynamic Characteristics of High-Speed Projectiles with Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic Coatings

Supercavitation technology has important application value in military and national defence fields because of its huge potential drag reduction, while the cavitation around underwater moving objects may be affected by surface properties objects. In this paper, supercavitation characteristics hydrodynamics a projectile with hydrophobic hydrophilic coatings were experimentally studied using high-speed camera. The evolution, size, velocity change, force coefficient, ballistic deflection projectiles different water depths are compared analyzed. results show that length diameter supercavity increase decrease depth. At same depth number, coating greater than those coating, coefficient was obviously smaller projectile. Under working conditions 6.67D, 16.7D, 33.3D, could reduced about 20–40% maximal reduction up to 40% at ? = 0.34 under 33.3D. attenuation 20% slower addition, stability coated better observed paper.
